A Fantastic Week for the CONTRABASS Consortium in Grenoble! 🚀
From March 10-14, we successfully hosted our 2nd CONTRABASS Workshop, Training School, and Mid-term Meeting at ISTerre and SIMaP laboratory in Grenoble! 🇫🇷
A huge thank you to Alejandro F-M and Alexander Pisch for the excellent organization! 👏
📌 Highlights of the week:
🔹 March 10 (Monday afternoon):
📍 Mid-term meeting with our REA Project Officer, where our coordinator Hegoi Manzano presented the network’s progress. The evening ended with a well-deserved dinner! 🍽️
🔹 March 11 (Tuesday):
📍 Workshop on Durability with insightful talks from Bruno Huet, Hong Wong, Fabien Georget, Stefano Dal Pont, and Chakib El Faqir.
📍 Start of Training School, covering Basic Characterization Techniques, including:
- Thermochemistry (Alex Pisch)
- Vertical Scanning Interferometry (Damien Daval)
- Atomic Force Microscopy (Alexander Van Driessche)
- Synchrotron notions (Alex F-M)
🔹 March 12 (Wednesday):
📍 Visit to ESRF 🏗️🔬—a fascinating experience learning about X-ray applications!
📍 Advanced Characterization Techniques sessions on:
- Neutron & X-ray Imaging (Alessandro Tengattini)
- X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (Denis Testemale)
📍 Transferable Skills session led by Hegoi Manzano.

📍 More Advanced Characterization Techniques:
- Wide & Small Angle X-ray Scattering (Alex F-M)
- X-ray Ptychography (Julio Cesar da Silva)
📍 Project Applications & Writing session (Massimo Bidussi).
📍 Science Communication Essentials (Anne Chapuis & Adeline Suppo), with students preparing & presenting post-doc grant proposals! 🎤
🔹 March 14 (Friday):
📍 Scientific Writing session led by Matt Lane ✍️📚
