Sergei Churakov
Host secondments DC3.
Sergey Churakov obtained his degree in geochemistry (1996) and applied mathematics (1997) at the Moscow State University, Russia. He defended his PhD on “Physical-chemical properties of complex natural fluids” at Technical University of Berlin, Germany, in 2001. He continued his research at ETH-Zurich in 2002, as research fellow working on quantum mechanical simulations of mineral and mineral surface reactivity. In 2004, he has joined Paul Scherrer Institute in Nuclear Energy and Safety Department. He became head of Laboratory for Radioactive Waste Management in 2014 and full professor for Mineralogy at University of Bern in 2015. His research is focused on transport and retention of radionuclides, mineral thermodynamics, and mineral surface reactivity.
